That is a very different issue to eliminating dedicated servers though. They could just make a log in which authenticates your game on start up eg. urrrr..... Steam?!?! They dont have the piracy issue yet are still keeping gamers happy

PC version of MW2 = no dedicated servers.
Re: PC version of MW2 = no dedicated servers.
I think rabi has a point about the downloadable content. I think the game companies are starting to get pissed off about the income coming from the Xbox 360 from the game add-ons. While I can understand the reasoning to do this, they do not realize what they are losing. They may even be trying to change the game to have it link up with the Xbox version for cross-platform playing, who knows? As far as no mods, that is going to cost them alot of money and most likely(if they are intellegent at all) they will do something to correct it. If they do the cross platform then cool. If not, this is simply at stupid move because not far after it is released someone is going to hack it so they can play it with their friends on a hacked server. Like what happened to most of the good MMORPGs.

Even more potential controversy.
If you thought being thrown into a car, driven across a city full of ultranationalists killing civilians, dragged out, strung up and shot in the face was harsh, OR waking up after being well within the devastating radius of a nuclear blast, wandering for a minute before succumbing to your wounds, then you ain't seen nothing yet.

Immediately after exiting the elevator, the four terrosists and the player draw large capacity machineguns and tear through the backs of several people waiting in line at the airport. For the next six minutes, the five patrol around the airport lobby, shooting innocent civilians as they try to escape, many of whom are trying to drag others away to safety.
After a body count of a few hundred, the five go out to the tarmac and have a battle with some heavily armed police. After a short fight, heavy weapons decimating the shields and SMGs, the five hop into the back of a getaway van, the player is shot in the chest and presumably killed by one of the terrosists mentioning that he knows he is a CIA agent.
Given the way the level drags on, making it seem monotonous to deaden the initial shock and the fact that the player character is a CIA double agent and does not have to shoot anybody, it kind of brings out the usual COD anti-war sentiment. Ain't gonna stop the inevitable negative media kneejerk.

Re: PC version of MW2 = no dedicated servers.
Yeah, ppl are talking about it on the Infinity Ward site right now. It seems that some are interested in being the terrorist. I'm surprised by that but it is just a game and there has been worse games out there. The whole grand theft auto series comes to mind. I killed alot of civilians in that game.

Re: PC version of MW2 = no dedicated servers.
Imperil hopefully this won't come across wrong but I think that excuse is BULLSH!T and LAME. That is not an attack on you but the developers / publishers. I agree that piracy is wrong and developers don't deserve to have their work stolen. That to me is not that issue, the issue is CONTROL, GREED and nothing else in this case. They want the PC gamers to pay the same $9.99 - $12.99 for patches, map packs and overall control of the content.
As far as piracy, a couple days after Borderlands came out there were over 50 torrents for the XBOX360 version. While it might be a little easier on the PC it is getting easier everyday on the consoles. I know a few people in my circle that have modded XBOX360s. Some of them have them so they can add some customizations but others have set theirs up so they can rent and rip games. Then they play the games off of their hard drives. I am too chicken to mod my 360 (for the customizations) with fear that I will have a new paper weight.
I talked to my son and his friends and some of them have experience gaming on both and the resounding response is the game play on the PC is much better than on the 360. They complain about not having games larger than 16 players, trying to play together with the match making feature, the game hosting lag or when the host leaves in some games the game ends and most of all lack of community. They also have the misconception that console gaming is cheaper than PC gaming (which of course is incorrect for many). And as far as hacking you have everything from overpriced modded controllers to people creating hacks on their modded 360s. The environment will create whatever solution is needed. Soon it will be just as easy to cheat and pirate on a console as on a PC (i.e. not having to mod your XBOX/PS3).

Re: PC version of MW2 = no dedicated servers.
We modded our PS1 back in the day. It was really simple and cheap to do. You could buy Hajii (however it's properly spelled) copied games for $2 a game over in the Middle East. I prefer to give the developers what they deserve for their work but I hate it when they start getting greedy.

Like I said... BULLSH!T...

This idiot probably wouldn't have got caught (at least not as fast) if he would have waited till the release date.

Re: PC version of MW2 = no dedicated servers.
Has anyone else got the PC version yet? I picked it up last night at gamestop, the place the packed.. the parking lot of the strip mall was full and midnight was about the time that the tropical storm was hitting us.
I don't really have all the angst that a lot of people do over the changes or omissions to the PC version. I had to play the first one on a ps3 because I didn't have a computer at the time... for me I'm just happy to be playing with a mouse this time.
If any of you have it and wanna team up my ID is Ungod77, friend me.

Re: PC version of MW2 = no dedicated servers.
Unless they approve the release of the raw data...
Oh well. Bunch of the AAA guys bought it.
EA jumped on the opportunity and guaranteed Bad Company 2 dedicated servers for PC. I was already planning on charting it (and BF1943) anyway.
But hey, how many EVE Online players are still around here?
There's an upcoming shooter called Dust 514 - an FPS that will allow cross-platform online play and interaction with EVE Online players through Client/Mercenary contracts. It's really something to look forward to (even if it is just 360/PS3 right now).

Re: PC version of MW2 = no dedicated servers.
I'm still playing EVE. I've been looking at the DUST 514 stuff for awhile. If anyone wants to know what kind of game it will be just think Planetside on crack. As Den said it will be a MMOFPS that will tie directly into the PC spaceship MMO in some really cool ways so it looks like it will be cool.
If you want to see some vids from the alpha and get some more info go to www.dust514.org
